The Quest
Gene Dunford / David Brown
I was given life but without the manual
I soon worked out I was just a granule
Spinning in a vat of matter potpourri
Just on the cusp of Alpha Centauri
Without getting all existential
Just knowing that could drive you mental
How much is enough? What should we give?
How should we love? How should we live?
I wanted to become more at one with Zen
I followed in the footsteps of laughing Len
I found a guru in his mountain hide
He said “how do you do, why don’t you come inside”
We chewed the fat but he tried to evade
Mentioning the mammoth, the mammoth in the cave
Is there an answer? The jury’s out…
Maybe The Hokey-Cokey is what it’s all about?
I spent some time looking for a teacher
A Plato, a Groucho maybe a Nietzsche
I tried Schopenhauer and René Descartes
I even flirted with John Paul Sartre
Some stuff I recall and some I’ve forgotten
I wrote down some words from Alain de Botton:Making a living, staying in love
Raising sane children
Making the most of the above
In this all too brief moment in the sun |
