On
the stoop
David Brown
It's an impressionistic sky, one you
only see in paint
I'm always saying that - you're right. But it's special just
the same
The setting sun has lost its fire; its
dying rays will light the moon
So why don't you and I retire
and talk the way we used to do
So here we are on the stoop
With so much shared history
And I am still in love with you
But are you still in love with me?
I saw Marie this afternoon,
she and the kids are doing fine
She's as beautiful as you and that's hard for me sometimes
That
magic night in Granada I think that we both knew
We were making more than love; our lovely daughter is
the proof
So here we are on the stoop
With so much shared history
And I am still in love with you
But are you still in love with me?
When you left I really
hurt, I can't pretend it wasn't hard
I threw myself into my work; I painted like Pierre
Bonnard
Mixed emotion and mixed colour, well
they all went in the frame
You were more than wife and lover so I knew we'd
meet again
So here we are on the stoop
With so much shared history
And I am still in love with you
But are you still in love with me?
And now all the wine is
gone, so I'll replace you on the shelf
And I know it won't be long before I'm in
an urn myself
Then all our waiting will
be through, we can be as one again
They can take us to the roof and free our
spirits to the wind |
