The
Badge
David Brown
I thought the hailstones would never
cease
Like everyone in heaven had lost their teeth
I weathered the storm, but my head got shrunk
I grew new leaves but on the same trunk.
There are no bruises that you can see
But I’ve fallen out the family tree
My heart was heavy
and my ass was sore
The horse was dead and my spurs were dull
Had no more room in my saddle bags
So I hung up my hat
And I handed in my badge
There'll be a showdown, but I won’t
be there
If there is a shootout, it will be to thin air
The things you do and the things you say
Bullets back at you - ricochet.
You’ll get your man and I’ll get my life
I’ll be me and you will be his wife
My heart was heavy
and my ass was sore
The horse was dead and my spurs were dull
Had no more room in my saddle bags
So I hung up my hat
And I handed in my badge.
I wore the badge so willingly
It seemed like somebody needed me
I played the role and I did my best
Though it weighed heavy on my chest
A dirty job but someone has to do it
A lonely job and now I’m through with it
My heart was
heavy and my ass was sore
The horse was dead and my spurs were dull
Had no more room in my saddle bags
So I hung up my hat
And I handed in my badge
I’ve got a woman that loves
me
Every wound and every scar
I don’t need no posse now
